Tip of the Week: Cake Coordination

The SYED team always recommends that your cake coordinate with the overall theme of your event. Read more to learn why and see examples of just how amazing a coordinating cake can look!

But first...here are some of our biggest tips:

♦ If you want real flowers on your cake, let us know! We're always happy to give your cake a little life with coordinating florals, but make sure to tell us before the day of the event! Most brides want this special touch on their cakes but forget to mention it during our consultations. Asking ahead of time will ensure that we save some of our most gorgeous flowers for the special task!

♦ Your cake is important- so make sure that it isn't left in the corner! You and your coordinator should have a designated table for your cake (preferably one that has a coordinating tablecloth on top of it and is in a well lit area). We love to decorate cake tables with assorted props, candles, and florals! Cakes surely aren't cheap, and they shouldn't be ignored!

♦  Size matters! If your event is occurring in a large and spacious ballroom, you won't want to have a small and plain cake. If you think that a large cake just will be too much for you and your guests, you can always ask your baker to provide faux layers- your guests will never know!

Take a look at some wonderful examples of cakes that coordinate with their events below!

Take a look at this gorgeous cake we did for a shipwreck-themed design. The cake's rosette icing had strands of pearls draped from the top tier, which brought in the "lost treasure" feeling to the design. Surrounded by coordinating florals and placed atop an antique dresser, this cake matched the table scape perfectly! Thank you to Evan Hunt Photography for the wonderful images!

Mona's gorgeous baby shower at a private residence was absolutely pretty in pink! This celebration was one for the books- filled with gold, soft pinks, and frill to the max! Every chair had a custom "tutu" backing, and so did the main dessert table! This look was recreated on the base layer of the cake (awesome, right?!) Also, assorted sized gold crowns were placed around the event and were found gently placed atop the cake! Thank you to Jana Williams Photography for the flawless images!

Lindsay and Davin's patriotic wedding at the Ebell Theater of Los Angeles was filled with red, white, and blue! Notice the way that their monogram on the cake matches both the large projection on the wall as well as their invitations and menus! Their cake matched their beautiful stationary and was proudly showcased on top of the stage in the main ballroom of the theater. Thank you to Callaway Gable for these amazing pictures!

Also, we have this super fun summer floral styled event we were a part of! This awesome cake was placed on lucite cubes and decorated with dozens of butterflies. This coordinated with the overall look as tabletops used lucite, butterflies, and the same fun colors! At the base of the cake were colorful flowers floating in a lucite trough, and the same design could be found in centerpieces! Thank you to Focus Photography for these shots!
